I can count the number of times that I’ve felt utterly and totally speechless in my life on one hand. This feeling is one that I seldom experience, and every time I do, it intensifies and leaves me in a deeper state of bewilderment. My most recent experience with this phenomenon came when I first stumbled upon Miller Blue’s “Talk It Out.”
London-based singer-songwriter and producer Miller Blue first broke out on the scene six years ago as a cover artist on Soundcloud (his cover of Jack Garratt’s “Worry” is exceptional) and he has since blossomed into a full-fledged artist pushing forward his unique brand of soulful R&B/Alt-pop. Over the past six years, Blue released three EPs and a series of singles that can go toe-to-toe with some of the most recognizable artists in the world. One of the most intentional artists I’ve gotten the opportunity to cover thus far, Blue channels emotions associated with different periods of his life thus far to create textured, powerful, and introspective music that any and all listeners can relate to.
Just a few weeks ago, Blue released the Sunflower (Live & Acoustic) EP and I cannot stress how important it is to listen to this project. Blue’s vocals and elegant piano riffs dominate the EP, showcasing his raw talent and incredible vocal range. In “Talk It Out,” Blue reimagines one of his most introspective pieces and adds another layer of personality and depth to the mix. It’s as if you’re sitting next to Blue on the piano bench listening to his soulful voice as it transports you to the most heavily guarded place in your mind. The keys build a backbone upon which Blue’s falsettos dance, constructing a soundscape that transcends emotions, decades, and genres.
One of the brightest lights in the UK right now, Miller Blue is on the cusp of a massive break into the mainstream music scene. Drawing from influences like Erykah Badu, James Blake, and Chet Faker, this burgeoning talent has all the tools necessary to become one of the biggest stars in modern popular music.
Stay up-to-date with Miller Blue’s artist project in 2021 as he is primed to release a cohesive collection that you will definitely hear one way or another.
