There are certain people in this music industry who I become immediately drawn to, even before I’ve had the chance to have a conversational exchange with them. Most people know this feeling; Stumbling on someone who you just know is a good person based off of the way they carry themselves. This scenario perfectly encapsulates none other than Kate Loesch. If you’ve seen Kate on IG, often times operating under her moniker, “Killa Kate”, then you’re most likely aware of her attention grabbing style and life loving attitude. It was these two attributes that led me to reaching out to her as I wanted to learn more about what made her who she was! After a fruitful conversation, it was evident that Kate is an undeniable boss in everything that she does! The 28-year-old NY native currently serves as the Director of A&R at Capitol Records where she gets to play an impactful role in the careers of artists like Masego and newly inducted XXL Freshman Toosii. Among other accolades, Kate truly is just a champion for good music and good people, which is why she’s our guest curator for this week! We took the time to ask Kate a few questions, so keep reading down below to get an inside scoop on Kate Loesch!
ER: What is the thing that keeps you so drawn towards music?:
Kate: Music is therapy to me, it has saved me many times and it’s a language within itself that I get to speak with some of the most talented people in the business.
ER: What are you working on now?:
Kate: Toosii & Masego
ER: What project are you most proud of working on/ was most memorable? FUTURE HNDRXX, we did a surprise double album, back to back #1s which had never been done before, making Future the first artist in the history of the Billboard 200 to have two albums debut at number one in successive weeks, and the best part was that it was a surprise!
ER: What is your mantra? What guides you?:
Kate: I have a few different mantras, but one of my favorites is to “ride the wave and feel it all”; my spirituality and faith guides me. What’s meant for me is already mine.
ER: What is the lasting impression that you want to leave?:
Kate: I want to be a light for others; to lead by example that authenticity and being genuine can and will get you far, alongside your talent. My hope is that I inspire women everywhere to go after what they deserve and to never be afraid to speak up. Mental health awareness & open conversations on the topic are also very important to me, we’re all going thru something. I like to consider myself somewhat of an industry spiritual advisor to close friends haha!
