Masked Mortal

It is no question that platforms like tik-tok, instagram and youtube are becoming the the new landing place for music journalism. Like never before, we are seeing the rise of local tastemakers turning into full fledge culture shifters, which is just a testament to the creator driven society we live in today. With so many online curators though, it’s always a struggle trying to find one that matches your specific taste and style; Being able to connect with a certain fanbase just by putting music together is an art and someone who does this with utter and complete ease is an individual who goes by Masked Mortal.

With nearly 2 million followers on tik-tok, the digital creator is undeniably creating a name for himself as one of the most reliable sources for all things music on the internet. Motivated by the serotonin boost he receives after discovering new music, Masked Mortal effectively used tik-tok, IG and YouTube to give deserving up and coming artists a platform to thrive in this music industry. The Early Rising team had the opportunity to ask him a couple of questions and down below, he shared some amazing insight! Keep reading to read this exclusive exchange:

ER: What is the thing that keeps you so drawn towards music?:

MM: I’m drawn back to music because it’s my happy place, discovering a new artist/song gives me a little boost of serotonin every time! I always loved putting together playlists so I’m glad I can help others expand their music taste!

ER: What are you working on now?:

MM: Currently I’m working on a series of “Ascending Artists” currently on YouTube, where I bring upcoming artists on the show and we sit down and talk about their career in the music industry, inspirations, upcoming projects, and much more! Transitioning to a whole podcast show/series in the very near future!

ER: What are your goals for the future?:

MM: My goals for the future is to have a voice for upcoming artists that I believe have phenomenal music but just need a way to get recognized and heard on a wider scale!

ER: What is your favorite part about music/working in the music industry?:

MM: My favorite part about working in the music industry is being able to build closer relationships with artists and to be a part of their growth process! Seeing a smaller artist go from 10,000 monthly listeners to 100,000 monthly listeners is something special to be part of!

ER: What is the lasting impression that you want to leave?:

MM: The lasting impression I want to leave is to have a voice for the voiceless in the music industry. Helping upcoming artists showcase music that you might not be able to find on a daily basis!
