Stephen Sanchez / Until I Found You

To me, art is inspiration. Taking inspiration from whatever or whoever it is that inspires you and combining it into a creation that is uniquely yours. This week, I am excited to share a track that throws things back to the early days of rock n’ roll music: “Until I Found You” by Stephen Sanchez, a whimsically beautiful love song that causes you to yearn for a time and a love that you never got to experience.

“Until I Found You” is simple, and for a track like this, simple is enough. Classic, bluesy instrumentals create a swing rhythm that one can’t help but sway their body along to. Harmonising with his partner, Georgia, Sanchez reads her a love letter. He sings: I would never fall in love again until I found her / I said I would never fall unless it’s you I fall into / I was lost within the darkness but then I found her / I found you. (Knowing that they made this song together makes it even more special than it already was. I am sorry, but if someone sang a song like this to me, I would simply perish.)

When I first heard “Until I Found You,” I felt like I had been teleported back in time to a high school dance in the 1950s. Truly, this song transports the listener to a decade they never lived through; one filled with poodle skirts and leather jackets and high school gyms filled with semi-inflated balloons.

“Until I Found You” is quite possibly one of the cutest love songs I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. Honestly, it is so much more than a song; it’s an experience.
