GCMAYN/ SOMEONE ELSE

Making his Early Rising debut is gcmayn. A Seattle singer/songwriter/producer wunderkind of sorts. “Rain City”, as they call it, comes with its own unique anxieties and traumas. A paradoxical duality exists in the PNW (short for Pacific Northwest). The almighty quid pro quo scenario that leaves you surrounded by beauty, but deprived of Vitamin D. It’s the land of the proverbially trippy, lumberjacks, Boeings, the “Red Ring of Death”, responsible for cartoons with flying saucers, and dare I be this cliche…..Nirvana. I said it. It’s done. Sue me. May we proceed now? The region simply manufacturers phenomenal creatives. Back to gcmayn…

“I thought I would be good by now”

Someone Else is a vibe. Possessing the subtle intricacies of acoustic guitar tip-toeing towards 808’s and heavily chopped, trappy hi-hats that harken back to Lil Peep’s golden era. There are inflections of what made people love Good Charlotte and Co. from the aughts. Gavin (Mr. Mayn’s “government”) however utilizes these as herbs and spices to foment his own spin on modern day emo. Korosu (the producer) Pluma (the mixing engineer), Michael Warren (guitar) teamed up to concoct a flawless Jamba Juice blend of hyperpop, trap, emo, and bedroom pop. The end-result is a melodic banger that you’ll find yourself listening to on repeat. So go run it up.
