“WE SWITCHED BODIES ” IS A COMPLEX INTRODUCTION TO LAUNDRY DAY’S RAW TALENT AND RANGE. THE GROUP’S LABEL DEBUT ALBUM BRINGS LISTENERS ON AN EXQUISITE AND ANGSTY JOURNEY OF SELF-INDULGENCE AND DISCOVERY.

LAUNDRY DAY WORKED WITH KEVIN ABSTRACT AND ROMIL HEMNANI (BROCKHAMPTON), ALONG WITH ROCK PRODUCER BRENDAN O’BRIEN TO CURATE THIS COHESIVE COLLECTION OF MUSIC. THERE ARE ASSUMED INFLUENCES OF BROCKHAMPTON AND THE STROKES IN ITS BLEND OF ROCK, INDIE, AND ELECTRONIC PRODUCTION NOTES.

THE ALBUM OPENS WITH “DID YOU SLEEP LAST NIGHT,” A FUNKY AND RHYTHMIC MASTERPIECE OF INDIE-ROCK INFLUENCE. THE SONIC STAIRS LEADING UP TO THE CHORUS MOVE LISTENERS FORWARD TO THE EDGY DISPOSITION AND THE HOOK, “I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT.” WITHIN “WE SWITCHED BODIES,” LAUNDRY DAY TRULY DOES WHATEVER THEY WANT.

WITH THE TITLE, “LITTLE BIRD,” THE SECOND TRACK MAY BE ASSUMED TO BE A SOFTER TRACK, YET LAUNDRY DAY KEEPS THE ENERGY UP.* THERE IS A SMILE AND A “FUCK YOU” ASSOCIATED WITH THE DISPOSITION OF THIS TRACK. THE PERCUSSION FOUNDATION ELEVATES THE EUPHORIC ANGLE OF THIS “LITTLE BIRD.”

AS LISTENERS SETTLE INTO THE ALBUM, LAUNDRY DAY PLAYS WITH ELECTRONIC PRODUCTION. “WORRY BOUT YOURSELF” INSERTS AN ELEMENT OF CLUB-INSPIRED MOVEMENT, COMPLIMENTED BY CHOPPY LYRICAL MYSTIQUE. THERE IS A CONTINUED THEME OF THE UNEXPECTED AND A DISTINCTION OF STYLE PREFERENCES THAT CONTRADICT AND SIMULTANEOUSLY FLOW.

THE ENERGY IS SUBDUED IN “DON’T BLOW YOURSELF UP.” WITH THE ELEVATION OF HARMONIES AND BACKGROUND STRINGS, THE SYNTHESIZED SOUND CALMS THE HEARTBEAT OF LISTENERS. THE MESSAGE IS STRAIGHTFORWARD AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING. THIS TRACK LENDS TO THE HUMANITY OF “WE SWITCHED BODIES.” THE AURA IS CONTINUED INTO “THE KNOTS,” MARKING THE MIDDLE OF THE ALBUM. IT IS SERENE, IT IS ALTERNATIVE, AND IT IS GENTLE AND KIND. IT IS A FUTURISTIC, REFLECTIVE, AND OPTIMISTIC ODE TO WHAT HOLDS PEOPLE DOWN. THEN, AS IF ALL AT ONCE, LAUNDRY DAY BRINGS THE INTENSITY BACK IN A MAGNETIC FORCE OF ELECTRONIC ROCK.

“ARE YOU READY NOW?”

TRACK SIX NEGATES THE OPTIMISM OF THE MOST RECENT TRACK, SPORTING CAREFREE INTRIGUE IN “AND EITHER WAY IT GOES.” THE TRACK MIRRORS THE TRADITIONAL ROCK STYLE OF BUILDING AND FALLING MELODIES, CATCHING THE ATTENTION OF THE LISTENER WITH EASE AND AMUSEMENT.

“BLUBE” BEGINS WITH A SIMPLE, REPETITIVE COUNT-IN, WITH OTHERWORLDLY SONIC RELIEF. THE EUPHORIC TRACK HIGHLIGHTS THE FUN OF LAUNDRY DAY. THE FUN TURNS TO POP-ROCK IN “CONNECT-5.” THE PERCUSSION FOUNDATION ENCOURAGES AN IMPRESSION OF EMOTION AND YOUTHFUL HEARTBREAK, WITH A CONCLUSION OF IMPOSSIBILITIES. “CONNECT-5” REFERENCES THE JUVENILE ROLLERCOASTERS OF COMING-OF-AGE DESIRES, HONEST CONFESSIONS, AND LESSONS LEARNED.

TRACK NINE IS THE GENTLE COMPOSITION THAT CREATES THE COHESION OF A FULL SKIP. THE LAYERED VOICES FIND A VARIED PERSPECTIVE, “LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SAY / IT’S NOT A GAME / IT’S NOT THE SAME / AS YOU DREAMED OF.” LAUNDRY DAY’S EFFICIENCY SETTLES IN THIS MODERN PIANO BALLAD. THE VOICES STRAIN AS THE AFFECTIONS DO, AND LAUNDRY DAY PRESENTS HOPELESS DREAMS.

THE ALBUM CONFIDENTLY CLOSES WITH THE TITLE TRACK, “WE SWITCHED BODIES.” THE INTRODUCTION TO THE CONCLUSION IS CARRIED BY GENTLE GUITAR STRUMS, CONSCIENTIOUSLY MAINTAINING A SIMPLE SING-ALONG RHYTHM. THE MANTA, “WE SWITCHED BODIES / I WAS YOU AND YOU WERE ME,” IS A GRACIOUS AND IRRESISTIBLE INVITATION TO FEEL AS IF YOU BELONG.

AND YOU DO.
