SUM SUN, comprised of Nick Benton, Eric Plummer, and Ilan Pomerance, just released their energizingly catchy debut single, “2:38.” This bi-coastal act has created their own genre-bending sound that is extremely intoxicating and exciting – shown brilliantly in this release.
“We like to call our sound ‘Big Room Indie,’” says Plummer. “It’s a combination of Indie and EDM that is designed to be played live, in a big room or a big festival setting. We really want to redefine what Indie Dance music is. A lot of it doesn’t truly feel like Indie or like Dance, and we’re trying to bring those two worlds together in a really digestible way. Our music feels like a future modern throwback.”
The trio started working together during the pandemic over Zoom but were involved in varying musical endeavors before joining forces to create SUM SUN.
“Because of the pandemic and the associated lockdown, we did what we had to do,” shares Benton. “All three of us moved home to our parent’s houses, which gave us the opportunity to work on music full-time for a while. We created a full album and all the singles we have lined up this year. It’s crazy, but honestly, our biggest accomplishment might be that we finished 14 songs in five months without ever meeting in person.”
When listening to “2:38” one can noticeably hear the unique fusion between the various types of music the band is influenced by. The lush production is filled with vibrant synths, spunky drum beats, and striking guitar riffs, with Benton’s voice blending in perfectly into the soundscape.
This song is just the beginning for SUM SUN, with new music coming out in April and an album on the way. Follow this riveting band’s journey to making a name for themselves in the music industry – they are going to reach new heights.
