Ladies, Gentlemen, & ATLiens……please make a warm welcome for Illusion Hills, as this is their formal debut to Early Rising! Taking inspiration from Beabadoobee, Dominic Fike, and Jean Dawson.. Illusion Hills is easily in my cream of the crop categorization for best records of the Spring so far. This song is truly an odyssey and they have an incredible story. Also, they solicited the talents of one of the hottest underground artists in the game (Buppy.) to bless them with one of his best efforts to date.
“I got thick skin, I don’t need friends…. I don’t think I’ll keep them….”
Illusion Hills is comprised of 8 members. Brockhampton truly started a wildfire. Smokey the Bear is assed out at this rate. I’ve listened to this song 100-200 times since it’s release a few days ago. This record is special. Tackling the inevitable cul-de-sac of maturation, Illusion Hills and Buppy. teamed up to concoct a Gen-Z classic.
“I’m not coming back”
That is all before this epic segues from a fast pace and angsty punk track that would surely make the late great Joe Strummer say “fuck yeah”, to a solo acoustic profession that makes you feel naked and vulnerable in the best way possible. I’ve been tracking on both Buppy. and Illusion Hills now for more than a few months now. To see them collaborate in this fashion truly blew my mind. All of these guys are independent kids that are making records that can bang with some of your favorites, irrespective of genre. Check it out asap! Odds are you play it 100-200 times like I did.
“I’m just a kid, I’m just a boy, I’m just a kid”
