When Zoe Ko, the 21-year-old New York based alternative pop artist, released “Line” in May, I was immediately a fan of hers. Realizing she only had one song out, I was patiently waiting for another release… and now finally she has dropped another incredible track, “Til U.”
“Til U” is an angsty heart-broken pop track that hooks you in from the moment it starts, taking the listener on an emotional rollercoaster. It begins with an iPhone recording of Zoe opening a “doorway” (figuratively) and letting someone walk through it into her life – putting a unique twist on a relatable heartbreak story. Ko’s unique gritty vocal tonality paints a complex picture of how this love story turned dark, with hard-hitting drums and alt rock guitars, this young artist conveys honest and raw insight into this emotional experience. Even though the inspiration for this track comes from heartbreak, the soundscape magically and artfully juxtaposes this sentiment.
Ko states, “There is this point in heartbreak where the sum of all of your thoughts and emotions becomes so great that you simply can’t hold it all in, you try to maintain but you’re teetering on the edge of losing it all until eventually you do, and all you can do is word vomit every last shred of your bottled-up anger – that is exactly the moment, the culmination of feelings and brutally unhinged, all out release of emotions that I wanted to capture with ‘Til U’ – the whirlwind journey of what it’s like to wear your heart on your sleeve, get burned to the ground, then build up a wall to make sure you never get burned again!”
