nicole han, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Orange County, California, just blessed our ears with her sophomore single, “how dare you.” She released an incredible live acoustic version of this track today on YouTube as well.
“how dare you” is a heartbreak anthem based on the story of being hopelessly led on. Using songwriting as a means of release, Han illustrated her heartache eloquently and beautifully within her lyricism. The track’s nostalgic soft-pop soundscape meshes seamlessly with Han’s breathy, gentle, yet powerful vocal quality.
When asked about the track, Han said, “Some of my favorite songs are songs that are emotionally-driven. I wanted “how dare you” to be this big song but also have emotional, intimate lyrics. I think “how dare you” embodies what it feels like to be a young, hopeless romantic who allows people in quickly. I wrote this song from a place of resentment, but I started to realize that it feels more sad than angry, and sometimes relieving. It really showed me the honest complexity of heartbreak. Songwriting helps me digest my emotions really clearly, and I think that’s a beautiful thing.”
