Slayla The Purpose / Rumpelstiltskin

It’s always a special day when I feel moved to write about an artist based on their debut release, and today I am grateful for the opportunity to introduce the South Side of Atlanta’s own, Slayla The Purpose and her debut single, “Rumpelstiltskin” to the world of early rising! Putting forward an innovative blend of 2000s hip-hop and neo soul, this track showcases the rising artists’ captivating vocal abilities and versatile pen game. Slayla’s ability to be innovative yet nostalgic with her sound had me captivated from the jump, and is bound to enhance any listener’s attention to her bountiful lyricism and insight.

Reflecting on the song’s personal significance, Slayla, describes it as, “an emotional, conflicting ordeal. You want to stay and you’re wishing that your partner wants you to stay, too, but you ultimately know that it won’t work out because your love for them is beyond what they can understand.” Striking a perfect balance between familiarity and the unknown, Layla has a special ability to give a unique take on broadly relatable relational experiences. Deemed “The Purpose” as a child by her late mother, this name is proven by the passion and honesty she embodies in her lyricism and sonic choices.
