I have been a fan of Blake Ruby for awhile so it was special when I came to Nashville for the weekend and learned he was playing live while I was here. Blake Ruby just dropped his newest album “She” which held 11 tracks that felt like a collective of love letters. It was hard to decide which track I liked the most but “On Fire” was the track I resonated with the most.
As it was explained at his show “On Fire” was a song about his wife dancing having a good time at a wedding and watching her. This song serves the idea that the magic is in the moment. Im sure Blake and his wife have an accumulation of stories together. But sometime there’s moments that give us this overwhelming feeling that almost isn’t worldly. That overwhelming feeling Blake had was love at the sights of his high school sweetheart dancing with her graces.
Soulful is a word overused often, even for me. But Blake has a way to make a song feel so intimate for the listener as he brings a wide range of influences to Adult Contemporary music. So what can you expect from Blake now? He is playing few lives shows which include DC, May 26th and New York City, June 7th.
