Bringing a nostalgic sound and a bittersweet feel comes from Mavica’s “Are You Back?” Mavica is a singer-songwriter and producer based out of London. The synth-pop artist shares smooth vocals that are merged with 90’s/ early 00’s RnB and modern day EDM influence that leaves listeners wanting to listen to this track where ever they go. It’s been three years since we have heard from Mavica and a lot must have happen as she shares a vulnerable story in her song “Are You Back?”.
Unpacking this track, there’s a lot of ways to interpret it. The lyrics that stood out to me the most was “You told me to forget her because she is already moved on (…) Are you back? Or not, we really wanna know”. Those words served as a time machine because I have had people I have once loved walk away from me. Though my mind knew it was over, my heart always creating hope this person would come back to me. It was my myself and my heart always asking “will you come back?” even though my mind would constantly give me a reality check. This song represents these internal conflicts we have within our relations with others. A heart-felt piece written that I think a lot of people can relate to and interpret in various ways.
Dropping two songs in the last 2 months after not dropping any music for three years it’s fair to say we should be expecting more music from Mavica through out the summer and this year. While we wait for more music to come from her listen to “Are You Back?” now below:
