With a fiery determination to leave their past relationships behind, the all-female rock band, The Beaches, looks to capture new audiences with their upcoming album. Their explosive energy and passionate lyrics quickly caught the attention of audiences everywhere.
“The Beaches” is an indie pop band hailing from Canada that comprises Jordan Miller on lead vocals and bass, Kylie Miller on guitar, Leandra Earl on keyboard and guitar, and Eliza Enman-McDaniel on drums. Their highly anticipated album, “Blame My Ex,” is set to release on Sept. 15.
Ever since the release of their hit single “Blame Brett,” The Beaches have been building a buzz around their upcoming album within the alternative music scene. Continuing with solid singles such as “Me & Me” and “Everything Is Boring.” In a visually pleasing and creatively designed manner, each member of the group is showcased on the cover of their respective single. The arrangement of the images is reminiscent of a film strip, adding a touch of nostalgia and charm to the overall aesthetic.
The Beaches lead their listeners on a lively and cheerful adventure into their world, filled with a varied indie-pop charm. During our discussion, the Beaches shared their upcoming tour schedule for the summer and fall seasons and discussed their upcoming album release.
Laura:
As a result of a fun tour schedule, what is your favorite city you have visited? Is there any fun story about a particular show abroad that you can share?
Kylie Miller:
My favourite city to play in is probably Chicago. I find the fans to be super welcoming and hype and they just know how to party there. The last time we visited during Lollapalooza, we had the best experience at Wiener’s Circle – an incredible hole in the wall for Chicago dogs where the wait staff teases you.
Laura:
In order to be successful on tour, what is the one item you must never be without
Leandra:
my nightguard, otherwise, I’ll grind all my teeth away, and I need my teeth for tour.
Laura:
Do you see differences in audiences between different countries? How do you approach going into a show abroad vs. a festival or show in North America?
Kylie:
For different countries, we don’t tend to notice a difference. There definitely is a difference when it comes to playing festivals and headline shows, but ultimately, just because a crowd is singing along to every word doesn’t mean they aren’t enjoying the performance.
Laura:
What do you think is your specific contribution to the beaches? Best jokes etc.(funny responses only)
Leandra:
my silliness. My mom told me to start being a little more serious, especially in interviews, but I’m just a GOOFY GIRL.
Laura:
How would you describe the change in the Beaches sound for the new album?
Kylie:
The record definitely has a more of a indie pop vibe, rooted in 80’s new wave
influences.
Laura:
What is each of your favorite songs off the album and why?
Kylie:
My personal fave is If a Tree Falls. It’s absolutely heartbreaking, but also somehow
uplifting.
Laura:
Since each of you appears on a single cover, how was it decided who was on every
single cover? Did each member select the song’s cover according to their favorite
song?
Leandra:
Jordan was selected for Blame Brett because Brett is her ex. I was selected for Me & Me because the running joke is that I’m obsessed with myself (it might not be a joke depending on who you ask) and then Kylie and Eliza just picked whichever song they preferred.
Laura:
Out of all your songs on this album, what is your favorite set of lyrics?
Kylie:
“Hot water and a cold coors light. Babe can you wash my hair, I was up all night.”
Just relatable you know?
Laura:
If you had to describe your upcoming album in 3-5 words, how would you
describe it?
Leandra:
good girls gone bad (bad = heartbroken)
