JORDAN WEBB // NUMBER 9

Nashville-native MC Jordan Webb describes “Number 9” as “a song about embodying who you’re trying to become, even if you ain’t quite there yet.” It’s a light-hearted, vaporwave-inspired track that mixes Southern and West Coast hip-hop in a hypnotic blend. You can’t help but groove when it comes on. Webb imagines it as a “wave of good energy that creates a cascade of warmth and brightness.” Featuring fellow Tennessee artist Namir Blade, a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and artist, the track came together in summer 2022 when the two struggled to navigate life in Los Angeles “post-pandemic and sans-income.”

“Namir and I wanted to make a fun, upbeat song because nothing in either of our lives felt particularly fun or upbeat,” Webb told me, “so we worked with our homie and producer Wes Singerman to let loose on this track.” The duo stayed in the studio well past midnight penning their verses and recording takes singing at the top of their lungs. The goal was to create a song that enables listeners to feel that they’re “not alone in these desperate times we live in.” As for the future, Webb’s goals can be summed up in one word: MORE. He aims for more releases, more music videos, and more live shows with his band. There’s a lot coming down the pipeline for Jordan Webb, so keep your eyes peeled…
